    Overview

Every neighbourhood has its own quiet stories.

Tales that never make the headlines, but stay eternally alive in our hearts.

At Indifeast, we call these the ‘Kuchh Achchha Banaate Hain’ moments - times when something good is made not just in the kitchen, but between people.

In Hyderabad, good food is more than just a meal.

    It’s a language, a gesture, a bridge.

    Sometimes, even a beginning.

This is one such story from amongst us. Of two neighbours, two homes, and one sweet gesture that changed everything.

It depicts how one small act of kindness, wrapped in warmth and sweetened by a bowl of Gulab Jamuns, turned strangers into family.

In Himayatnagar, two families had lived side-by-side for years - the Khannas in Flat 302 and the Vermas in Flat 303.

They weren’t strangers, but they weren’t exactly friends either.

    They exchanged the usual:

    “Good morning, bhabhi.”

    “Lift rukwao, please.”

    “Parcel aapke paas rakha hai.”

    And that was it.

Life was fast, schedules were tight, and like most neighbours in a busy city, they lived close — without ever really knowing each other.

All of that changed on one festival night.

Diwali ki raat... and a kitchen disaster

It was nearly 10:40 PM. Priya Verma was still in her kitchen, preparing for the special Diwali breakfast the next day.

Her family - parents, sister, and nieces were travelling overnight from Gulbarga.

She knew her nieces would ask for one thing first: the Gulab Jamuns.

But that night... something went wrong.

    Her sugar syrup crystallised.

    Stone hard.

The Gulab Jamuns turned rubbery within minutes.

She stared at the pot helplessly and whispered,

    “Ab kya karun?”

The streets were silent and dark. Shops had pulled down their shutters.

Priya’s heart sank as she thought of the six excited children arriving, eager for a treat she could no longer serve.

Across the balcony, Ridhi Khanna noticed the lights on.

    She knocked gently.

    “Everything okay, Priya ji?”

    Priya forced a tiny smile.

“Bas... ek chhoti si problem hai..”

Ridhi walked right in with a familiar comfort, ready to help. Priya told her about the problem.

The rescue: a simple Indifeast Gulab Jamun Instant Mix Pack

Ridhi rushed back home and brought something from her pantry.

She handed out a pack of Indifeast Gulab Jamun Mix.

“This is my go-to. Easy, quick, and deliciously authentic.

    Priya looked relieved yet worried.

“Lekin itni raat ko...time kahan hai?”

    Ridhi smiled,

“Don’t you worry! We can make this in no time. Chalo, jaldi!”

For the first time in eight years, the two women stood together in the same kitchen – sleeves rolled, aprons tied, hair clipped back.

    Priya whispered,

“Bas dua kijiye... is baar ban jaaye.”

    Ridhi laughed,

“Ab bass uss moment ke baare mein sochiye jab bachche ye Gulab jamun dekhenge... Achcha sochenge, toh achcha hi banega!”

And just like that, the tension lifted.

    They mixed the dough.

    Rolled the balls.

Checked the oil temperature like seasoned chefs.

And waited for that magical golden-brown colour to appear.

    “Aah! Dekho dekho... perfect!”

    Ridhi almost clapped.

    Priya replied softly,

    “Sab sahi lag raha.”

Within minutes, soft, warm Gulab Jamuns floated in the shimmering syrup.

Priya packed a small dabba for Ridhi.

    Ridhi said, “Arre abhi nahi.”

    Priya insisted,

“Nahi Ridhi... baantne se mithaas badhti hai. Aur kal Diwali bhi toh hai.”

That line - simple, honest is what turned neighbours into something more.

When the families met the next day, the warmth was instant.

Priya introduced Ridhi to her parents:

    “Yeh wahi Ridhi ji hain.”

    Her father smiled,

“Beta, aapne toh Diwali ko mithaas de di.”

    Ridhi blushed,

“Priya ji ne banaya. Main toh bas help karne aayi thi.”

From that day onward, Sunday walks became common, festival thalis crossed balconies, and birthdays were celebrated together in the 3rd-floor corridor.

A simple connection turned into a steady friendship...

All thanks to one warm dessert shared at the right time.

To this day, Priya says with a laugh:

“Raat ke 11 baje instant Gulab Jamun ne long-lasting rishta bana diya.”

    And Ridhi adds,

“Jab log milke kuchh achchha banaate hain, toh rishte apne aap ban jaate hain.”

At Indifeast, we believe that good meals do more than fill plates,

They open doors, soften hearts, and build deep bonds.

That is why we say - Kuchh Achchha Banaate Hain.

Countless stories keep unfolding in homes around us.

And if you have one too, we’d love to hear it.
