Everyday Sooji Upma using Indifeast Sooji
A simple, classic upma made with medium-grain sooji, perfect for daily breakfast and loved across Indian homes.

Ingredients
For the pancake batter:
- 1 cup Indifeast Atta
- 1 ripe banana (mashed)
- 1 cup milk (or water)
- 1 tbsp jaggery or sugar (optional)
- 1 pinch cinnamon
- ½ tsp baking powder
- 1 tbsp ghee or oil
- Saffron strands (optional)
- Cashews & raisins for garnish
For toppings:
- Honey (for kids above 1 year)
- Banana slices
- Berries
- Choco chips (optional)
- 1 tsp ginger-garlic paste
- 1 tsp soy sauce
- ½ tsp vinegar
- ½ tsp black pepper
- Salt to taste
- 1 tbsp oil
Method
Roast the Sooji
- Dry-roast Indifeast Sooji on medium flame until aromatic.
- Keep aside.
- Add Indifeast Atta and baking powder.
- Mix to form a smooth batter.
- Rest for 5 minutes.
Prepare the Masala Base
- Heat oil in a pan.
- Add mustard seeds, cumin, and curry leaves.
- Add onions and sauté till translucent.
- Add tomatoes and vegetables; cook for 3–4 minutes.
- Add turmeric and salt.
- Cool completely before filling.
Cook the Upma
- Add water and bring to a boil.
- Slowly add roasted sooji, stirring continuously.
- Cook until soft and fluffy.
- Fold and pleat edges to shape classic momos (round or half-moon).
- Ensure they are sealed properly.
Finish
- Add coriander.
- Mix lightly and serve.
- Place momos with space in between.
- Steam for 8–10 minutes until the dough turns shiny and translucent.
Tips
- Roast sooji evenly to avoid lumps
- Add more veggies for a wholesome meal.
- Add 1 tbsp lemon juice at the end for freshness.
- Use hot water for quicker cooking.

- Serve with coconut chutney
- Pair with curd
- Serve with tomato thokku
- Add a side of fruit for a complete meal
